With a $135,000 Grant from the New York State Music Fund, the GRAMMY Foundation has committed to developing a new GRAMMY Pro Session, focusing on the art forms of DJing and Remixing with curriculum and resources for all learners regardless of economic situation or experience level. The Pro Session program provides student participants engagement with interactive demonstrations, applied participation learning turntable techniques and receive immediate feed-back and encouragement from professional DJ’s Faust & Shortee serving as GRAMMY Foundation Teaching Artists, who lead all of the on-site DJ sessions, culminates with a demonstration workshop at the New York Chapter GRAMMY Career Day.

Four target high schools had a maximum of thirty (30) student participants, respectively. Ten (10) students are accommodated at once during a two-hour session, which will occured three times daily. During this time, students received instructive hands-on training to learn the art of beat matching and basic scratching techniques from the GRAMMY Foundation DJ Teaching Artists Faust & Shortee. At the conclusion of the on-site outreach, one complete DJRMX Station was permanently installed at the school so the students are able to practice and prepare for the GRAMMY Career Day demonstration workshops. By providing a DJRMX station, access to musicians in the greater New York region, and connectivity to Recording Academy/GRAMMY Foundation programs, sustainability after the on-site outreach and GRAMMY Career Day has fostered enthusiasm and build capacity for other student participants over time.

The following weekend after the GRAMMY Foundation Teaching Artist Outreach at the school-site, all 120 students traveled to Legacy Recording Studios for a four-hour session with a remixing expert & learned this technique using industry-standard software applications to alter and reinvent a piece of music, received a tutorial on how to incorporate this learning using their DJRMX Station. The day concluded with a lunch and DJ Showcase Concert with DJs Faust, Shortee & Daddy Dog.

Students’ who had previous experience, are more advanced or possessed demonstrated aptitude from each high school were able to prepare for the GRAMMY Career Day Showcase on March 21, 2007.
